Vitamin K2: Synergy K2 and Why it is the Best K2 Supplement From Australia

What is Vitamin K2?

Vitamin K is a group of fat-soluble vitamins recognised as being some of the most important to human health. The most effective and nutritionally important is vitamin K2, which deals with free calcium excess in particular. It binds to free-floating calcium - clearing it from the arteries where it accumulates and calcifies, and pushing it into the bones. This improves bone density and body composition, as well as benefiting heart health. Thus, vitamin K2 is known for combatting conditions like osteoporosis, osteopenia, heart disease, gall stones and kidney stones.

Activator X - Vitamin K2

For a long time, vitamin K2 had not been discovered. Initially, Dr Weston A Price (Dental and Nutrition Pioneer)  had discovered this essential vitamin as a fundamental  component in the diet of all healthy tribes across the globe. He called it 'Activator X '. An unidentified substance that seemed to protect indigenous people from tooth decay and chronic illness. That was until 2007, it was identified as vitamin K2.  Nutrition Diagnostics began the race to develop a supplement that mimicked the original 'Activator X' formula.  Dr Price thought so highly of this vitamin and believed that it is what gave the traditional people superior health, fertility, longevity and perfect dental health.

Vitamin K2 MK-7 From Australia

There are two subcategories of Vitamin K2 - Menatetrenone (MK-4) and Menaquinone-7 (MK-7). Vitamin K2 MK-7 has greater bioavailability and a longer 'half life' than MK-4 - meaning it is longer-lasting and more effective. For these reasons, we have chosen to formulate our own vitamin K2 supplement - Synergy K2 - using MK-7 in the form of MenaQ7® - the only clinically validated, patented vitamin K2 on the market. As with all of our naturally formulated supplements and vitamins, Synergy K2 has been proudly made in Australia in accordance with the quality and safety standards for which Australia is renowned.

Types of Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 MK-4

Vitamin K2 is derived mainly from animal meats and diary. It is also found in natto - a fermented soybean dish (the only vegan form of vitamin K2). However, vitamin K2 found in animal meats is often in the form of MK-4 - which has less bioavailability and a shorter ‘half-life’ than the other form of vitamin k2, MK-7

Types of Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 MK-7

Vitamin K2 MK-7 has greater bioavailability and a longer half-life than MK-4 - making it longer-lasting and more effective. For this reason, it is more efficient to concentrate vitamin K2 from MK-7 supplements, which is why our very own Synergy K2 is made with MK-7.

Vitamin K2 and D3

Synergy K2 is made with vitamin D3 and vitamin A. The combination of vitamin K2 and D3 is particularly beneficial for bone, and cardiovascular health. Vitamin D3 helps with calcium absorption, ensuring that calcium is properly absorbed and pushed into the bones. This synergy between vitamin K2 and D3 is what our Synergy K2 supplement is named after. Vitamin D3 has also been included to support the immune system, as low levels of vitamin D are associated with weakened immunity and increased susceptibility to infection.  It is also the same original formula Dr Weston A Price called 'Activator X'.

Vitamin K2 Sources and Benefits

Vitamin K2 can be found naturally in a range of sources like animal livers, meats, cheeses, milk, eggs (mainly yolk), butter and sauerkraut, to name a few. Its benefits are perhaps best viewed through Dr Weston A Price's lens who first discovered vitamin K2 (or activator X as he knew it). As per the Weston A Price Foundation, "In 1945, Dr Weston Price described 'a new vitamin-like activator' that played an influential role in the utilisation of minerals, protection from tooth decay, growth and development, reproduction, protection against heart disease and the function of the brain."

Dr Weston Price observed that the absence of activator x (vitamin k2) in the modern diet was responsible for the widespread proliferation of tooth decay, poor facial development and degenerative disease. These days, we know that some of the primary benefits of vitamin K2 are in bone and cardiovascular health, as it pushes calcium into the bones - ensuring it does not end up in the arteries.

Benefits of Vitamin K2

Bone Health

The main function of vitamin K2 is to push free floating calcium into the bones. This serves a multitude of functions; it improves bone density and strengthens the bones, and it ensures calcium is not deposited into joints and arteries. Because of this, it is often used to treat those suffering from conditions like osteoporosis and osteopenia. Sufficient vitamin K2 is also integral to the healthy development of bones in children.

Benefits of Vitamin K2

Heart Health

When calcium is not pushed into the bones, it is deposited into the arteries, which tends to weaken cardiovascular health. A sufficient intake of vitamin K2 is integral to clearing the arteries of free floating calcium and maintaining heart health.

Benefits of Vitamin K2

Oral Health

The relationship between vitamin K2 and the teeth was first discovered by Dr Weston Price. During his studies of primitive tribes, he noticed that they had perfectly formed teeth that were resistant to tooth decay. In fact, he observed only one cavity per every thousand teeth. Vitamin K2 pushes calcium into the teeth - improving density and strength. It is also essential to the synthesis of osteocalcin - which is a calcium-binding protein that promotes the growth of dentin - thus protecting the teeth.

FAQS

We answer some of your most commonly asked questions about our Vitamin K2 supplement, Synergy K2.

Can I get all the vitamin K2 I need from my diet?

Vitamin K2 can be found naturally in the diet. Foods that are rich in vitamin K2 include; natto, animal livers, meats, cheeses, butter and sauerkraut. The main difference between the vitamin k2 found in food and that found in our Synergy K2 supplement is that vitamin K2 typically exists as MK-4 in food, whereas our supplement is MK-7. This is not to disparage foods that are rich in vitamin K2 as they are typically nutrient-dense and nutritionally important for various other reasons. However, our Synergy K2 supplement is more highly concentrated.

What is the daily recommended dose of Synergy K2?

We suggest adults and children over 10 take 1 capsule per day (with a meal) or as advised by your healthcare professional.

Who should be taking Vitamin K2?

Everyone can take our vitamin K2 supplement - especially those with immune challenges, poor bone density, heart/cardiovascular issues and free calcium excess (gall and kidney stones for example). Vitamin K2 is essential for people of all ages.

Why is it important to supplement vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2?

Under the disease model of health, a number of people are diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency. They are then prescribed vitamin D supplements to boost these levels. However, this approach fails to recognise that it is not a lack of vitamin D that causes poor health, but rather that poor health causes low vitamin D. The most common cause we see for vitamin D deficiency is an excess of free calcium. This is because the body requires vitamin D to absorb calcium properly. In the instance fo free calcium excess, the body deliberately lowers its vitamin D levels in an attempt to protect itself from calcium being deposited into the arteries, joints and organs. When you supplement with vitamin D only, calcium can be deposited into the arteries, joints and organs. However, when supplementing with vitamin D with K2, calcium absorption can be optimised and pushed into the bones. This synergy between vitamin K2 and D3 is key to the efficacy of our Synergy K2 supplement.

Why is vitamin K2 MK-7 better than MK-4?

Vitamin K2 MK-7 is superior to MK-4 as it has greater bioavailability and longer half life. This means it is longer-lasting and also more potent - ultimately making it more effective.
